Five juveniles were arrested this week in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash that left an elderly man dead near his St. Petersburg home Monday.
Police arrested five suspects, aged between 12 and 15 years old, on charges including third-degree murder, vehicular homicide while leaving the scene, and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Edward Webb, 70, was on his way home from work, walking across 9th Avenue South when he was struck and killed by a stolen Jeep.
Investigators said that Webb was hit just feet away from his home; The SUV involved in the crash was later found abandoned a few blocks away.
The St. Pete Police Department said the SUV was driven by a 14-year-old boy with four teen passengers.
The victim’s widow said he leaves behind a son, daughters, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“With no regard for human life, a senseless act. Took somebody’s life and wouldn’t even have the decency to come back and stop,” she said.
