Mother, 2 adoptive children found stabbed to death in Cincinnati home; suspect takes own life

Authorities in Cincinnati, Ohio are investigating a massacre after three family members were found stabbed to death Thursday morning.

Patricia McCollum, 78, and her two adoptive children, 32-year-old DJ McCollum, and 11-year-old Cadence McCollum, were found stabbed to death inside a Springbrook Drive home at around 8 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect, later identified as 66-year-old Anthony Mathis, barricaded himself inside the residence for “a couple” of hours as police negotiated his surrender.

  • When officers ultimately gained access to the residence, they found Mathis with fatal self-inflicted stab wounds.

    Investigators are now working to determine how the suspect and victims were related.

    “It’s unbelievable and it’s hard for us to digest because a member of our community who we valued is gone and individuals that were young are gone,” a neighbor said.
