3 dead; 8 injured in mass shooting following Mississippi school’s homecoming football game

Three people were fatally shot and eight others were wounded when gunfire erupted among a group of youngsters following a school homecoming football game early Saturday.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting stemmed from a fight involving two young men.

  • It occurred hours after the football games at the Holmes County Consolidated School’s homecoming celebration.

    Two of those killed were 19 and the third was 25. The injured victims were taken by helicopter to local hospitals.

    “The football team had won the homecoming game and people wanted to go out and celebrate the win, but others didn’t have that same intention,” Sheriff Willie March said.
