One of the two suspects accused of killing a Louisiana homeowner after posing as utility workers has been arrested, authorities in Shreveport announced Saturday.
Hussein Murray, 72, was found slain in the basement of his home Friday after he allowed the two suspects into the residence.
Security footage showed the suspects, described as a large Hispanic man and a thin Black man, standing outside Murray’s home and saying “We’re DTE, We’re checking for gas leaks.”
The victim’s wife, who was tied up elsewhere in the home, told detectives the two men showed up the previous night and asked to be allowed into the home claiming there was a gas leak.
When the couple refused, the suspect returned the following morning and perpetrated the heinous crime.
“We appreciate the public’s help with giving us tips and information related to the Rochester Hills homicide involving the fake DTE workers,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
“We have suspect number one, the Hispanic male shown in the video, in custody in Shreveport, Louisiana.”
The Sheriff asked anyone with information about the second suspect to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. A reward of up to $2,000 is offered for tips leading to an arrest.
