A Michigan man’s attempt to suppress the noise of fatal gunshots has “obviously” failed after he used a potato as a silencer while firing at two people killing them for beating him in a dice game.
The bizarre incident occurred Tuesday morning when Oakland County deputies responded to several reports about a shooting at an apartment complex in Pontiac.
Deputies found victims Sidney Ward III, 20, and Tyrone Davis Glenn Jr., 24, with fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators recovered two handguns and noted the shooter’s “futile attempt” to silence the shots by using a potato.
“It didn’t work obviously because we got calls from people about hearing gunshots,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect about 12 hours after the shooting.
They learned that he became upset about losing $80 in a dice game and decided to kill the victims.
“I have been in this a long time, but it is still shocking to see the lack of value some people place on human life,” said Bouchard.
