Pro-skydiver dies while jumping in wingsuit in Utah: ‘He was fearless in the extreme’

A professional Alabama skydiver died Friday while jumping in a wingsuit near a Utah summit, his family said.

Jonathan “Jonny” Bizilia, 27, died while base jumping near Willard Peak in Utah.

  • The Opelika native worked at Skydive Alabama in Cullman County and had made thousands of jumps at jump zones in Alabama, Utah, and Florida.

    “He was a deeply principled young man, with a keen sense of right and wrong, a devotion to those he loved, and a stubbornness that was both admirable and at times, maddening,” his obituary read.

    “Tough on the outside and fearless in the extreme, Jonny was a kind, tenderhearted soul who was moved easily to tears.”
