Bus crash kills at least 1, wounded 17 in Phoenix

At least one person was killed and 17 others were wounded early Saturday when a bus crashed on a Phoenix interstate, authorities said.

The crash took place at around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 in downtown Phoenix, the Department of Public Safety said.

23 people were on board the bus when the crash occurred. 17 were hospitalized with “mostly minor injuries.”

    The freeway reopened full at around 9 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

    “An accident occurred involving a third-party bus operator at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday on Interstate 10, near Phoenix,” FlixBus said in a statement.

    “We understand 23 passengers were on board. At this time, we are unable to provide further comment. Our thoughts are with all those affected.”
