7 killed in crash involving 3 vehicles in North Carolina

Seven people were killed Thursday night in a three-vehicle crash in Robeson County, North Carolina.

The deadly collision unfolded at around 6 p.m. near Pembroke, officials said.

Two vehicles traveling west on NC 711sideswipped when one tried passing the other.

The passing car then collided head-on with a third vehicle traveling in the opposite lane. At least one vehicle caught fire.

  • Investigators said weather was not a contributing factor in the fatal crash and that the passing vehicle was speeding.

    The seven victims were occupants of the passing vehicle, and three of them were ejected from the car. They all were pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver of the third vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to UNC Health Southeastern.

    An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
