Washington news, US news.

Former President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed Friday that “Putin can’t win the war” after an hour-long, tense meeting.

The pair haven’t had a meeting since 2019 with Trump repeatedly criticizing the US support for Ukraine.

Zelensky and Trump shook hands at the beginning of the meeting. Trump said it was an “honor” for him to meet with the Ukrainian leader.

“I hope we have a good victory because if the other side wins you’re not going to have any victories, to be honest,” he added.

The presidential hopeful promised to end the war if he were to win the election, going as far as to offer to make a deal with President Joe Biden to achieve that aim.

Zelensky said he and Trump “have a common view” that the war with Russia “has to be stopped and Putin can’t win.”
