A Louisiana mother was arrested Wednesday and charged in connection to the death of her 4-year-old son who was struck by a car after escaping their home.
Baton Rouge Police said 28-year-old Shannon Moore told investigators her son ran out of their apartment on August 30 before he was killed in a crash.
The woman said she gave “chase” but couldn’t catch the boy. She waited 30 minutes before calling the police.
Minutes after her call, officers were flagged down by a driver who said a boy ran in front of her car and she struck him.
The child suffered a skull fracture, a broken femur, and several lacerations to his head and body. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Officers noted that the child’s diaper was overflowing when he fled from the apartment.
They said they were called to the same apartment the day earlier after a similar incident involving the boy.
Moore told detectives at the time that her son had repeatedly tried to escape from the apartment because of a broken lock.
She faces charges of child desertion and improper supervision of a minor.
