10-year-old boy fatally shoots former mayor of Louisiana town & his daughter during argument

A 10-year-old boy has been arrested after he allegedly gunned down the former mayor of a northwest Louisiana town and his daughter early Sunday.

Neighbors reported hearing Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, arguing with the boy before hearing gunshots.

Cornelius Jr. and his 31-year-old daughter Keisha Miles were found deceased shortly later.

    He also served as a sheriff’s deputy and a marshal. He was a beloved member of the community who ran programs for youth and promoted Black history observations.

    “Joe Cornelius’ years of service to Minden were marked by his commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community,” said Minden Mayor Nick Cox.

    “On a personal note, I am grateful for his friendship and the many ways he supported me and others in our city.”
