A Florida death row inmate was executed Thursday evening for the 1994 murder of a college freshman and the rape of the victim’s sister.
Loran Cole, 57, was pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday for the three decades old murder of John Edwards, 18, and the rape of his 21-year-old sister Pam Edwards.
Cole and accomplice William Paul, 20, befriended the siblings during a camping tree before luring them away from a campsite in the Ocala National Forest to carry out their crimes.
The pair beat John Edwards and slashed his throat, leaving him to bleed out, face down on the ground, before Cole tied up his sister and raped her.
Cole’s attorney argued that his Parkinson’s disease would “make it impossible” to humanely execute him.
Before the beginning of the proceedings, Cole was joined by his son, Ryan, and a pen pal for his last meal which consisted of pizza, ice cream, soda, and M&Ms.
