A Utah man was put to death Thursday morning for the 1998 murder of his girlfriend’s mother, the state department of correction said.
Taberon Dave Honie, 48, was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m., about seventeen minutes after he received the lethal injection of pentobarbital.
“From the start, it’s been, if it needs to be done for them to heal, let’s do this,” Honie’s last words were. “If they tell you you can’t change, don’t listen to them.”
“To all my brothers and sisters in here, continue to change. I love you all. Take care.”
Honie was 22 when broke into Caludia Benn’s Cedar City home while drunk and drugged.
He slashed the woman throat and stabbed her multiple times before raping one of the victim’s grandchildren who were at the house.
Before the execution, Honie told a parole board that he wouldn’t have killed Benn had he been in his “right mind” asking for a chance “to exist” for his daughter.
Honie’s last meal consisted of a cheeseburger, French fries, and a milkshake. He reportedly spent the evening with his family.
