A North Carolina man is behind bars after he allegedly left a disabled man inside a hot car for hours Tuesday causing his death.
Rogers Inge Jr., a 55-year-old custodian at Cleveland High School, told cops he brought Dontarious Batts, 22, to his workplace and left him in the car with the windows up and engine off.
Inge, the full-time caretaker of Batts, claimed that the victim seemed fine when he checked on him at 10 a.m.
He went back to work leaving the disabled man inside the car until 4 p.m. when he found him dead.
Inge drove to a fire station and called 911. Batts was pronounced dead at the fire station.
Batts had special needs and couldn’t get out of the car or care for himself, local media outlets said.
Inge, who now faces involuntary manslaughter charges, was fired from his job.
