The bodies of a Michigan man and his 6-year-old son were discovered Wednesday inside a camper, two days after they vanished.
Rowan Morey was reported missing by his mother on Monday when his 48-year-old father Michael Steven Winchell, failed to bring back the child.
Deputies searched Winchell’s home on Tuesday and contacted his friends and family in an attempt to find him and Rowan.
On Wednesday, deputies were searching a camper on the rear of Winchell’s property when they broke a window and spotted Winchell’s lifeless body.
Rowan was also found dead at the scene. Investigators said the man shot his son dead before taking his own life.
“Our hearts are broken and we can’t comprehend how to move on from this,” Rowan’s family said in a statement.
“We will take time to grieve but ask the community for their continued help and ask you to join us in demanding more to protect our children.”
