A grieving Arizona mother said that her late 15-year-old daughter stole her car keys while she slept before she died in a horrific crash last weekend.
Stacy Stembridge remembered her daughter Ana Marie as “cute and funny” as she recounted how the teen stole her car keys before Saturday’s fatal crash.
The unlicensed teen driver was driving 90 miles per hour before she went off a Phoenix road and crashed into a tree at around 4:15 a.m.
“I started crying and going, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe it.’ I’m numb and in shock that it’s her,” the mom said.
The girl’s boyfriend survived the crash with critical injuries; Stembridge believes her daughter had just started learning how to drive from a friend.
“I think that’s what started it, him teaching her how to drive, and all of a sudden, she took my car.”
