Authorities in New York City are investigating after a baby drowned in a bathtub at a Bronx apartment Wednesday.
Jezeli Mirabal, 11-month-old, was purple and unresponsive when her mother, just returning from the grocery store, discovered her in the bathtub at around 7:40 p.m.
Neighbors described the mother’s screams as EMTs worked to revive her infant.
“When she opened the door she was putting the food away,” a neighbor said. “She was grabbing the groceries and was going to give the cart back. Then all the screaming happened.”
“It’s just confusing me. How do you leave the baby in the tub? It doesn’t make sense at all.”
A friend of the deceased girl’s mother described her as a “good mother.”
“We all make mistakes. She never abused her kids. She was not that type of mother.”
