Michigan toddler shoots self with unsecured gun at babysitter’s home

A Michigan boy is recovering after he reportedly shot himself with an unsecured gun while at his babysitter’s home over the weekend.

Warren Police officers responded to the residence at around 6 p.m. Saturday and rushed the 2-year-old boy to a hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The boy had shot himself in the stomach using a loaded, unsecured gun he found inside the 42-year-old babysitter’s home.

  • Police said the babysitter, who had a license to carry concealed weapons, had two handguns in the residence.

    “While babysitting, it is believed that the babysitter left the handguns unsecured in an area accessible to the child,” police said.

    “Investigators will be examining the details surrounding the safe and secure storage of the handgun as part of their investigation,”

    “As of this point in the investigation, it does not appear that more serious foul play was involved.”
