SC couple arrested for leaving infant in running car for hours

A South Carolina couple was arrested Saturday for leaving an infant unattended inside a running vehicle for several hours.

Police in Spartanburg were called at around 1:30 p.m. to Westgate Mall where a woman said she spotted an infant in a running car when she arrived at work in the morning and found out the baby was still there four hours later.

The woman went and pulled out the baby from the car before calling the police.

  • Officers and first responders surrounded the vehicle for thirty minutes before Shezmon Dendy, 26, and Tacara Gill, 25, finally showed up, unconcerned by the police presence.

    Gill was put into a patrol car while Dendy tried to run away before being arrested. Both were booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on charges of unlawful conduct toward a child.

    Investigators found meth pills and a stolen ID inside the vehicle. The couple’s relationship to the baby remains unclear.
