A 12-year-old Tennessee girl was caught on surveillance footage suffocating her 8-year-old cousin to death earlier this week.
Police said Demeria Hollingsworther and her alleged killer were staying at their grandmother’s home for the summer when a dispute over an iPhone erupted.
A home security footage obtained by police allegedly showed the 12-year-old girl suffocating Hollingsworther in her sleep, cleaning up her face, and repositioning her body.
“The video shows the 12-year-old with her full body weight taking bedding, it appears the eight-year-old is asleep, and she takes the bedding and covers the 8-year-old’s face,” said Prosecutor Fredrick Agee.
Agee called the murder “unimaginable” revealing that the preteen “goes and gets tissues and papers, tries to clean the 8-year-old’s body and face, and also moves the child, to make it appear that she was under the covers.”
The victim’s mother said she wanted to get her back to South Carolina but thought the girls were enjoying their time.
“I should have just gone to get my kid. But they were having fun for the summer and I didn’t think she would kill my baby,” the grieving mom said.
