A week after she was “senselessly and brutally murdered,” a suspect has been arrested in the slaying of a 13-year-old Florida girl.
Police found Rose Dieujuste dying inside a utility closet at the Orlando apartment complex where she lived.
On July 4, Rose left her apartment to visit a friend who lived at a nearby building at the same complex.
After finding her belongings in the stairwell of the building, the concerned friend reached out to Rose’s family.
Rose was ultimately located barely alive and stabbed in the closet. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Surveillance footage caught 28-year-old Jerry Dorisme buying a kitchen knife from a local store and then walking behind the teen at the apartment complex.
The knife’s packaging was found at the crime scene. Detectives said they received countless tips from the community as they worked to identify the suspect on the footage.
“The community is upset. We received many tips about him, and in fact, his father also called us to identify him, as well,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said.
Dorisme, who did not know his victim, was charged with first-degree murder after his Thursday night arrest.
