A Louisiana man had his charges upgraded to first-degree murder after he allegedly confessed to killing his grandparents, officials said.
23-year-old Colby Stokes reportedly confessed to a neighbor and to responding deputies after fatally shooting Beverly and Carley Stokes Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s kind of a domestic dispute that escalated to the point where now it’s not recoverable and the extended family is going to be dealing with the consequences of this for a long time,” Washington Parish Sheriff Jason Smith said.
The sheriff added that Colby suffered from mental health issues and drug and alcohol addiction.
“We have a large segment of our population that struggles with drug abuse and mental health issues,” he said.
