Staff member left brain-dead after being attacked by inmate at Wisconsin youth prison

A Wisconsin youth prison staff member was declared brain-dead Wednesday after an attack by an inmate earlier this week.

The victim’s family was allowed to proceed with organ donation after doctors ruled the head injuries he sustained were fatal.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections said the unidentified staff member was attacked by a 16-year-old inmate Monday night.

    The victim struck his head on the concrete during the fight at a residence hall the state’s only youth prison.

    The incident is being investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
