Authorities in Chicago are investigating the death of an off-duty police officer inside a Northwest Side home.
The 54-year-old man was found unresponsive by fellow officers conducting a welfare check at the home in the 7400 block of North California Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

The unidentified officer was declared dead at the scene. His cause and manner of death are being determined by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The decedent was taken to the examiner’s office by ambulance and was escorted by half a dozen CPD squad cars with blue emergency lights activated.
A death investigation was launched and no further details surrounding the incident were immediately released.
