On-duty Illinois deputy killed in crash after truck steered off road; struck parked patrol car

A DeKalb County, Illinois deputy was killed in the line of duty Thursday night after a truck hit her parked vehicle from behind.

Five-year veteran deputy Christina Musil was parked on the shoulder of Illinois Route 23 near Perry Road when the commercial truck ran off the road and struck her patrol car at around 10:40 p.m.

    The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office mourned the death of the 35-year-old deputy who served in the Army National Guard for four years as a military police officer and served in Afghanistan.

    “My heart is broken. God bless [the] DeKalb [County] Sheriff’s Office and our first responders everywhere for the work they do that puts them in the face of dangers known and unknown,” State Rep. Jeff Keicher said.
