9-year-old NJ boy found dead in burning car after father set vehicle on fire

A New Jersey boy was found dead inside a vehicle his father set on fire following a family dispute late Thursday.

Manuel Rivera, 43, left his Sayreville home with the 9-year-old boy at around 10:45 p.m. following the domestic dispute, police said.

Shortly afterward, he doused his vehicle with his child inside it in gasoline and set it on fire near Sayreville War Memorial High School.

    Rivera was outside the car, suffering burns and a self-inflicted wound.

    Investigators are working to determine whether the boy was killed in the fire or before the car was set ablaze.

    Rivera was initially charged with aggravated arson but additional charges are expected.
