Chicago authorities have arrested a suspect accused of stabbing a heavily pregnant mother and her 11-year-old son killing the boy.
The crime took place at around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Edgewater section of the city, police said.
Officers responded to reports of an apparent domestic incident to find the boy suffering from a fatal stab wound to the chest.
The boy’s mother, who is eight months pregnant, was repeatedly stabbed with a cut to the neck.
The boy, later identified as Jaydone Perkins, died at a hospital where his mother is fighting for her life.
“She was a lovable woman, and her son was very well-mannered and spoke to me all the time,” a neighbor said. “I’m sorry for this tragedy.”
The suspect was known to his victims and had a history of domestic violence. He was set free from jail on Tuesday.
