Authorities in New York City have arrested an ex-con turned activist after a dismembered body was discovered inside his Bronx apartment late Tuesday.
48-year-old Sheldon Johnson is accused of killing and mutilating 44-year-old Collin Small inside his apartment on Summit Avenue in Highbridge.
Police responded to the unit after a neighbor heard gunshots and spotted Johnson leaving and entering the apartment multiple times, carrying cleaning supplies and a black garbage bag.
Officers found a headless human torso and severed foot inside a trash bin before finding the victim’s legs, arms, and head in a freezer inside the apartment.
Johnson was a high-ranking member of the Bloods gang before his arrest on attempted murder charges decades ago.
He spent 25 years behind bars and upon his release, he turned into a criminal justice activist spending his days working with the Queens Defenders office helping others to deflect from gangs and crime life.
In February, Johnson was a guest on “The Joe Rogan Experience podcast” where he spoke about his time in jail.
“Prison does two things to you: It brings out the best or it brings out the worst,” the suspect said.
