Three people were tragically killed late Saturday morning after their plane crashed near a Jackson County airport.
Authorities responding to reports of a fire about a quarter mile north of the James A. Rhodes Airport found the burning wreckage of an aircraft just off Barton Road.
Firefighters and first responders extinguished the flames and recovered the bodies of three victims.
Ohio State Highway Patrol later identified the decedents as Dan Baker, 75; Daniel T. Baker, 44; and 45-year-old Zebulon D. Logan.
Jackson County Sheriff Tedd E. Frazier said the three were headed to Florida to pick up Logan’s newly purchased car.
The National Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft that crashed as a single-engine Piper PA-32 adding that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
