A military helicopter crash left two National Guard members dead Friday afternoon, authorities in northeast Mississippi said.
The AH-64 Apache was “flying a routine training flight” when it went down in a wooded area near Baldwyn at around 2 p.m.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said that crews responded to the scene of the wreck and confirmed the two fatalities.
“Mississippi will always be grateful for their service and we will never forget them,” Reeves said.
The fallen soldiers were in A Company 1-149 Aviation Regiment Unit and D Company 2-151 Lakota Medical Evacuation Unit.
The incident remains under active investigation, the Mississippi National Guard said.
“We are grateful to the first responders and safety crews who are still working the scene of the accident with local authorities.”
