Wichita news, Kansas news.

Wichita authorities are searching for a “cowardly” gunman who fired shots at a home Monday evening, killing an infant and wounding two women.

Police Chief Joe Sullivan had harsh words for the suspect who opened fire at the residence in the 2500 block of South Oliver near Pawnee and Oliver at around 7:20 p.m.

Two 24-year-old women were critically injured while an infant sustained fatal wounds, Sullivan said adding that the shooter likely did not know his victims.

“Some cowardly individual walked up to a house with no idea who was inside and really didn’t care who was inside, and fired several rounds into that home, and now we have this terrible tragedy,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan said that although no arrests were made in the case detectives have “strong direction” and the full cooperation of many witnesses since “people are mad” following the incident.

“If you’re listening to this, the only option you have is to turn yourself in,” he told the suspect.

“Call 911 and turn yourself in. It’s the only possible thing you can do to redeem yourself from something so horrifically horrible and most importantly, cowardly.”
