A Michigan mother was found guilty of murdering and torturing her disabled teen son one day after she threw up in court upon seeing photos of the emaciated victim.
Shanda Vander Ark, 44, began to vomit in court Thursday when Prosecutor Matt Roberts showed pictures of 15-year-old Timothy Ferguson who died in July 2022 from malnourishment and hypothermia weighing just 69 pounds.

The boy’s mother did not show up for court proceeding Friday due to a “medical issue.” A jury convicted her of first-degree murder and child abuse.
Roberts accused Vander Ark of torturing Timothy by feeding him hot sauce and forcing him to take ice baths.
“She killed him. She starved him to death,” the prosecutor said.
