An Ohio grandmother was arrested early Saturday shortly after she allegedly shot her baby granddaughter in the eye, leaving her in critical condition.
Police said 42-year-old Mia Desiree Harris shot the 6-month-old baby in her face after she missed her mother following an argument involving several family members just before 2 a.m.
“It wasn’t an accident. It was on purpose,” said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.
“This is one of the most disgusting, vile criminal acts I’ve ever seen, shooting a 6-month-old baby. What makes it even is this is the baby’s grandmother.”
The baby remained in critical condition late Saturday after undergoing two surgeries at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
“The baby is hanging onto life as we speak. It’s in God’s hands now. We should all pray for this 6-month-old baby,” Jones added.
“Imagine doing a surgery on that small of a child, where these crazy people do these things to kids. It’s disgusting and it’s one of the worst things I’ve seen.”
Harris was arrested after she pulled over on Interstate 75. She was charged with three counts of felonious assault and is being held without bond.
