Car service driver arrested for vicious attack that left passenger dead; cousin critically wounded

Authorities in New York have arrested a car service driver accused of fatally beating a passenger and critically wounding another Thursday.

Sergio Zamora-Mendoza, 33, was charged with manslaughter and assault in connection to the vicious attack that took place on West 9th Street near Avenue T in Gravesend early Thursday morning.

The driver had just dropped victims Carlos Guaman, 66, and his 52-year-old cousin off when a dispute erupted between the three men.

  • Zamora-Mendoza stepped out of his car and punched the two men killing Guaman. His cousin, who is currently in critical but stable condition, told detectives he was heavily drunk at the time of the attack and couldn’t recall the circumstances surrounding the incident.

    A neighborhood resident said such an attack was so bad around Christmas.

    “I’ve been living in this neighborhood for almost nine years and this has never, never happened here. I don’t see anybody fighting; it’s always a quiet neighborhood.”
