Az. man accused of street-racing while drunk causing 'extremely violent'; killing 2 passengers

Authorities in Tempe, Arizona have charged a 32-year-old man with reckless manslaughter in connection to a fatal crash caused by speed.

Derek Glasscock was allegedly traveling at over 150 miles per hour early Saturday morning while street racing.

Officers tried to intervene and stop his Ford Mustang but it sped away before crashing into a power pole and two palm trees.

Glasscock was reportedly pinned in the driver’s seat while his two passengers were ejected.

  • 32-year-old Jesse Ruiz was declared dead at the scene. The other passenger, 31-year-old Maria Rangel, died at a hospital.

    Investigators allege that Glasscock admitted he was intoxicated and disoriented behind the wheel after having at least three mixed drinks at a Tempe bar.

    Authorities deemed it an “extremely violent” crash that sent the Mustang flying over 9 feet into the air.

    The impact reportedly threw Rangel 80 feet away from the crash scene. She was found behind a building.
