Bullying behind fatal shooting of 11th grader at Louisiana school

Authorities in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana shed more light on the fatal shooting of a junior high school student at the hands of another earlier this week.

Vernon Gordon Jr.’s life was cut short on Tuesday when he was gunned down in a back parking lot of St. Helena College and Career where he and the shooter were both enrolled.

  • Two other students were wounded in the shooting that occurred after classes. Jordan was an 11th grader and a football player with his father being the assistant coach of the team. His uncle is the school principal and the head football coach.

    “The motive appears to have been from bullying and the investigation of course is still ongoing,” said Chief Deputy Joe Cheney.

    The 14-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and illegal possession of a firearm.
