Brooklyn teen, 16, dies after plunging off upstate NY waterfall

A Brooklyn thrill-seeker drowned Tuesday after jumping off a popular upstate waterfall, police said.

The 16-year-old victim and another teen fell into a swimming hole below Fawn’s Leap in the Catskill Mountains and got caught in a current.

  • A swimmer rushed to the teens’ rescue saving one; the other boy died in the incident. His body was recovered by Greene County divers and he was pronounced dead at around 3:30 p.m.

    Cliffs at the popular waterfalls are about 25 feet high. The site draws dozens of adventurers and is the scene of several incidents including a near-drowning that occurred a few days ago.

    Hours earlier, 16 visitors were rescued from the Fawn’s Leap and Rat’s Hole after a downpour that flooded the Kaaterskill Creek area.
