Worker electrocuted while setting up for NASCAR Chicago Street Race

While setting up for the NASCAR Chicago event Friday, a worker suffered a fatal medical emergency and died from accidental electrocution.

53-year-old Duane Tabonski worked for a staging and lighting company near the starting line of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race in Grant Park when the fatal incident unfolded.

“On Friday afternoon, a contractor suffered a fatal medical emergency,” a NASCAR spokesperson confirmed.

    In a statement, Tabinski's company mourned its founder's passing.

    “He was busy doing what he loved, providing a top-of-the-line audio experience for the enjoyment of others,” the statement read.

    “A very giving and caring soul, Duane will be missed.”
