New York City news, New York news.

Locals in the Bronx's Wakefield area were left baffled Friday after police said that a woman's lifeless body was found in a plastic bin on a path they frequently use to get to stores and a train station.

The gruesome discovery was made just after noon Friday at 4438 Edson Avenue, the NYPD said.

A woman's “semi-decomposed” body was found stuffed inside the bin. Her identity and cause of death are still being determined, authorities said.

Witness James Washington said that he first spotted the suspicious bin on Wednesday while walking down the shortcut path with his girlfriend.

“I kicked it and it felt heavy. I was gonna come back and open it but I didn't open it,” he said.

Another resident of the area said that at least 100 people use the pathway daily to get to nearby businesses and stations.

“It's so crazy because I just walked through that path last night going to the store and I didn't notice anything,” she said.

“I was just very surprised because in the three years I've lived here I've never come across dead bodies or anything like that.”
