8-year-old child dead, 3 others hurt in fiery crash along NJ highway

Authorities in New Jersey said that an eight-year-old child was killed and three others sustained injuries in a fiery crash along a Gloucester County highway Saturday afternoon.

Police said the driver of the car was traveling on Route 55 in Mantua Township “passing vehicles in the center grass median and left shoulder” just before 2 p.m.

  • State Police said that the vehicle ended up striking another car before it lost control and crashed into an overpass, bursting into flames.

    The injured, a child and two adults were transported to an area hospital for treatment. An 8-year-old was pronounced dead.

    Authorities were processing the scene near mile marker 52.9. the left lane of the highway northbound was shut down for about six hours.
