'He was family': US soldier, 20, dies in rollover crash in Kuwait days before Memorial crash

A 20-year-old US soldier was killed Thursday in a rollover crash in Kuwait, US officials said.

Spc. Jayson Reed Haven died following a non-combat accident at Camp Buehring in the desert of Kuwait.

While the incident remains under investigation, it occurred days before Memorial Day, the day honoring American soldiers who passed while serving the US.

    “SPC Jayson R. Haven was more than just a member of the South Carolina National Guard; he was family.”

    The fallen soldier had earned multiple medals, and awards during his service with the South Carolina National Guard as a machine gunner.

    He joined the US Army in 2020 and was assigned to Company B. 1st Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade before his deployment to Kuwait.
