Semitruck driver arrested on DUI, manslaughter charges after deadly crash kills 7 on Oregon interstate

Authorities in Oregon have arrested the driver of a semi-truck that was involved in a deadly crash that killed seven people Thursday afternoon.

The arrest of 52-year-old Lincoln Clayton Smith came after witnesses said that he was driving erratically on the northbound lanes of I-5 before hitting a parked van without braking first.

The van then struck the back of another truck that was parked in front of it. The crash caused the deaths of seven passengers of the van while four others sustained injuries.

  • Smith was busted on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, manslaughter, and other offenses.

    Prosecutors said during his arraignment that the California resident refused a field sobriety test but was unable to focus or answer their questions.

    Smith reportedly admitted to taking “speed” hours before the collision and had meth on him.
