Kentucky boy, 14, killed in fatal crash while walking home in new pair of shoes

A Kentucky boy was fatally struck by a car while walking home in a new pair of shoes on April 29, authorities said.

Johnathan Bridgeman, or Jeb as his family called him, was weeks shy from celebrating his 15th birthday when he was killed in the crash.

“We had called him and said it was time to come home and he said, 'I'm walking home from Walmart, but you don't need to pick me up. I can just come home. I'll be there in 30 minutes,” mom Hallee Bridgeman recalled.

But after 40 minutes, the boy did not show up prompting Halle to call him again. This time, an officer answered the phone.

  • “Ma'am, we need you to come to the corner of Bypass and Redwing. There's been an incident and if this is your son, he's deceased,” the cop said.

    Jeb who was homeschooled but smart enough to solve a Rubik's cube in less than 30 seconds while reciting Pi. He also practced taekwondo, music and ventriloquism.

    “It's completely wrong that he's not here,” father Gregg Bridgeman said. “I'm not angry with the driver. I'm angry that Jeb is not here.”

    “That the world is not a better place because he's no longer in it.”
