An Antioch man is behind bars after he fatally shot his neighbor for using a leaf blower, authorities said.
79-year-old Ettore Lacchei was charged with murder over the April 12 slaying of his neighbor, 59-year-old William Martys.
The victim was reportedly using the leaf blower in his yard when Lacchei approached him and an argument followed.
At around 7:35 p.m., Lacchei shot his next-door neighbor in the head. Lake County deputies found Martys bleeding in the driveway.
The man was declared dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the pair had “various perceived grievances.”
Martys was a construction worker and a father of four, according to his obituary; he left behind a granddaughter that he loved above all.
“He strived to create happy events and opportunities in life while making sure the ones around him were happy as well.”
“If you were William's friend, you were his friend for life – he would be there no matter the circumstance.”
