Five people died in a crash in Mississippi late Tuesday when their car crashed into a barricade and fell off a bridge, authorities said.
Panola County authorities said that four of the five victims were children under the age of 15 while the adult was only 19. All the victims were related.
Investigators said that no other vehicle was involved in the accident that unfolded at around 10 p.m. Tuesday on a rural Batesville road.
The victims were all either current or former students of the South Panola School District.
“South Panola School District is heartbroken and saddened by the tragic passing of five of our current and former students,” the district said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, faculty and staff, and classmates.”
