Gunman opens fire at vehicle carrying 6 juveniles in Tempe killing one, sending 2 more to hospital

Authorities in Tempe, Arizona are hunting for suspects after a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 5-year-old shortly before midnight Friday.

Officers rushed to the scene at the intersection of West Broadway Road and South 52nd Street at 11:45 p.m. and learned that a gunman in a vehicle fired several shots at another vehicle that was carrying an adult and six juveniles.

Three children sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to an area hospital where the 5-year-old victim later died.

  • Investigators said that the targeted car was traveling eastbound on Broadway Road from 48th Street “when the suspect vehicle began shooting at the victims. The suspect vehicle immediately fled the scene prior to PD arrival.”

    “There are currently multiple outstanding subjects,” the police added.
