Illinois teen, 17, charged for killing girlfriend, her father & 9-year-old sister after breaking into home

A 17-year-old Illinois boy was charged with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly killed his girlfriend along with her 9-year-old sister and 40-year-old dad amid a home invasion Sunday.

Byrion Montgomery pleaded not guilty to the murder of his girlfriend Samiya A. Shelton, 17, her father Cartez Daniels, and sister Sanai Daniels.

  • 34-year-old Tania Stewart was shot during the incident but is still hospitalized in stable condition. Two boys, aged 14 and 3, were not harmed.

    The stepmother of Cartez Daniels, who was shot and stabbed to death, remembered him as a loving father who worked as a carpenter and tried to make “life better for him and his kids and his family.”

    “He could do anything, mathematically. He loved his family. He loved everybody,” she added.
