Young Forbes' 30 under 30 nominee collapses, dies after finishing Arizona marathon

The founder of a successful emailed newsletter business and nominee of Forbes' 30 under 30 list collapsed and died after completing a 26.2 marathon in Arizona earlier this month.

Pierre Lipton, 26, suddenly fell after finishing the Meza Marathon in which he participated along with his girlfriend on February 4.

Eleanor Pereboom said that her late boyfriend completed the race 15 minutes before her in 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 5 seconds.

She was told that Lipton “basically fell right into the arms of paramedics.”

  • “They tried to do CPR. They tried everything. We still don't know what happened,” Pereboom said.

    Lipton's father, who is an emergency medicine specialist, believes his son died from a “sudden electrolyte imbalance that caused arrhythmia.”

    A devastated Jordan Lipton said that his son was “healthy” and “took such good care of himself.”

    Lipton reportedly showed no sign of distress before his final collapse; An official cause of death for Lipton is pending.
