Former Detroit Lions player dies after collapsing at mental health facility; he was 40

Former NFL player Stanley Wilson Jr. died at the age of 40 after collapsing at a mental health facility earlier this month.

Wilson, who played as a defensive back for the Detroit Lions, passed away shortly after the collapse during intake at Metropolitan State Hospital. Foul play is not suspected in his death.

Months ago, Wilson was charged with two counts of vandalism and one count of second-degree burglary after breaking into a Hollywood Hills mansion twice and taking a bath in a fountain inside the property.

    Wilson played three seasons for the Lions before suffering a career-ending Achilles injury in 2008 during an exhibition game against New England.

    He was the son of former Cincinnati Bengals running back Stanley Wilson Sr. who was suspended after being caught using cocaine on the eve of Super Bowl XXIII in 1989.
