A Brooklyn teen is dead after he was brutally stabbed by a group of gang members as he left school Friday.
Nyheem Wright, 17, was reportedly chased by the six juvenile assailants at around 3:20 p.m. and then stabbed in the torso in a Mermaid Avenue parking lot.
He suffered a collapsed lung and a damaged vein and fought for his life at the Maimonides Medical Center for nearly 24 hours before succumbing Saturday.
“I spoke with the young man's principal this evening, who described him as a joyful leader,” Schools Chancellor David Banks said.
“He was on the verge of graduation, and was a hard worker who took an active role in leading other young people at his school.”
Nyheem was found stabbed less than a mile from K728 Liberation Diploma Plus High School where he was a senior.
“This week our students repeatedly suffered from senseless acts of violence, and tonight we mourn an utterly tragic loss of life,” Banks added.
