'Utterly tragic loss': Brooklyn boy, 17, stabbed to death by six teen gang members

A Brooklyn teen is dead after he was brutally stabbed by a group of gang members as he left school Friday.

Nyheem Wright, 17, was reportedly chased by the six juvenile assailants at around 3:20 p.m. and then stabbed in the torso in a Mermaid Avenue parking lot.

He suffered a collapsed lung and a damaged vein and fought for his life at the Maimonides Medical Center for nearly 24 hours before succumbing Saturday.

  • “I spoke with the young man's principal this evening, who described him as a joyful leader,” Schools Chancellor David Banks said.

    “He was on the verge of graduation, and was a hard worker who took an active role in leading other young people at his school.”

    Nyheem was found stabbed less than a mile from K728 Liberation Diploma Plus High School where he was a senior.

    “This week our students repeatedly suffered from senseless acts of violence, and tonight we mourn an utterly tragic loss of life,” Banks added.
